Colette Garvey Senior Physiotherapist MSc (Advanced Physiotherapy), BSc, MISCP
Colette Garvey established Imokilly Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic in 2005 having re-located to the East Cork area. She qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist with 1st class honours from the University of Brighton, UK in 1999. She then began her career within the busy NHS in Southampton and London, before following her Irish roots back to Cork where she has since been working in private practice.
Her special interests are musculoskeletal physiotherapy and the management of sports injuries, including the correction of biomechanics and movement patterns in sport; management of the active young and skeletally immature; and the use of strength and conditioning in rehabilitation. She is a qualified Pilates instructor and licenced to practice acupuncture/dry needling. She also has a role within the occupational health provision of a number of local manufacturing companies in both the management of musculoskeletal injuries and proactive, injury prevention strategies.
Colette has previously provided physiotherapy to the following teams : Munster Rugby Development squad, Ireland A's Ladies Rugby and the Ireland Mens Hockey Squad. Her current physiotherapy responsibilities are Midleton Rugby Club, Fr. O’Neills GAA team and several elite athletes.
Functional exercise and rehabilitation remain fundamental principles of her treatment and injury prevention strategies which are used alongside manual therapy and dry needling. Colette recognises the importance of continued professional development and actively participates in post-graduate training. She has recently completed her Masters degree in Advanced Physiotherapy at University College Dublin. Her research project involved the Midleton Rugby team and found that the “RFit15 warm-up” reduced the incidence of injuries sustained in match play in amateur rugby players.
Colette’s personal interests involve running, swimming and triathlon to keep fit, along with running around after two young kids!
